Biography

Anita Ammerlaan (1976), graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 1999, has been painting portraits of cows in a figurative-realistic manner since 1997. Anita was inspired by the cows on the dairy farm where she grew up, the love for the dairy farm and cows was instilled in her from an early age. Now she is also concerned with other themes. Anita approaches her themes in a colorful, personal way, giving her paintings a poetic charge. In recent years, Anita has mainly painted with acrylic paint, but she also makes use of oil paint and other techniques. Anita has been working on her 'lightscapes' series since 2011. The process to the end results was based on her feeling, her feeling for nature, in contact with the material, without a predetermined plan to surprise herself and the audience. These are cheerful, colorful works that you should also see up close in real life. Only then will you see the many shades of color, the relief and the many ways in which the light plays with the image. Since 2012, she has again combined this 'lightscape' series, a mix of abstract, impressionism, expressionism, figurative realism, with her favorite theme, the common thread in her work, the cow. Her paintings were purchased by private individuals and companies at home and abroad. Anita Ammerlaan had her studio from September 2012 to December 2021 in a fantastically large space of 1150m2 in the center of Roosendaal. Until then, Galerie Anita Ammerlaan (a new exhibition every 3 months with work by +/- 10 different artists) and Art Plaza Roosendaal (for drawing and painting materials) were also located here. "
