Biography
My name is Bart Kok (1974) and I originally come from the east of the Netherlands. Although I have a science education and have been working in the molecular biology research world for many years, I have always had a strong creative drive. When I moved to Amsterdam I started painting more intensively, which is the way for me to express myself creatively.
I am self-taught and initially I mainly painted still lifes and landscapes, partly inspired by my own travels around the world. Over the years I have continued to develop, for example by taking various drawing and painting courses and painting under professional guidance. This also shifted my interest towards figurative art. Nowadays I like to paint people in an environment that evokes emotions and/or questions.
When I paint I am completely focused on my work and the image I want to create. The subjects I paint are very diverse and I create what I feel at that moment. Sometimes a subject intrigues me so much that I make a small series about it.
One of the most striking features of my work is the powerful use of color. This has made a clear contribution to the own style that I have developed.
