Biography

The only way to make great work is to love what you do. The urge to create was there early and will always be there. The disciplines vary widely due to the need to discover, experiment and control. I was also interested in technology as a child, hence my choice for a Graphics course. In my time, printing techniques were not yet computerized and digital design was in its infancy. This was followed by training at the art academy in Belgium, where I lived at the time. I believe that if you are artistic and creative and also master your techniques well, you can create anything you want to “imagine”. I didn't want to be limited….

Inspiration:

The abstract series is mainly based on freedom of expression where colors and shapes play an important role in the composition. In terms of content, my work is driven by my fascination with contradictions and the way in which they influence each other. The contrasts are diverse, think of chaos and order, hard and soft, dark and light. While maintaining the contrasts, I try to find unity and balance in an image. I do not see these concepts as incompatible extremes but as “forces” that cannot do without each other or, on the contrary, reinforce each other. Chaos is not a lack of order but simplicity hidden behind complexity.

Form:

I paint on good quality cotton canvases of different sizes and start by choosing the colors that appeal to me most at that moment. The design is often done unconsciously and I go wild in shape, structure and color. Then there is time to look and feel until I have made decisions and a balanced whole has been achieved.
