Biography

Jelte Prins, born in 1955 in Arnhem, has been taking microscope photos for quite some time: photos of crystallized chemicals, very thinly cut wood and very thinly cut (gem)stones. He has been living and working in Someren for years. He has been taking photographs since his youth, first analogue and now digital. More than 20 years ago, he saw a photo of a crystallized chemical made with a microscope. He has been taking microscope photos ever since, first with a simple microscope. Now with a Zeiss Axioplan microscope. By using polarization when photographing, he can make the structures even more clearly visible. After working as a company doctor for years, he turned his photography hobby into his job. Microphotography makes a world visible that is not visible to the naked eye. Many beautiful structures can be seen through the microscope: all works of art. A CANON R6 camera is used. A specialized company prints on aluminum using Chromalux. This gives a unique effect to the photo. In 2025 he will have the 3ewon a prize at the Dutch Society for Microscopy. Had exhibitions at Forma Aktua, Lytse Skientme, Ekelhof, Nordic Days and National Art Days. The photos are printed in square format and in gloss. On request, printing can also be done in square format and/or matte. The size can also be adjusted as desired up to a maximum of 300x150 cm. For other sizes or finishes, please contact Jelte.
